We are looking for a Safety Manager to oversee all safety aspects across our client’s Aggregate sites, Ready Mix Concrete sites, and the Ottawa Bearbrook corporate office. (Greater Ottawa regions) This position requires extensive knowledge and experience in safety management within the mining, aggregate or heavy industrial manufacturing industry. The Safety Manager will be tasked with managing various safety topics such as confined spaces, working from heights, energy isolation, heavy equipment, lockout tagout, policies and procedures, incident management, and project implementation for new safety equipment and best practices at the sites. Moreover, expertise in driving safety is crucial for excelling in this role.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies in line with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
Provide guidance and training to employees on safety procedures, protocols, and best practices.
Collaborate with site managers and supervisors to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Lead incident investigations and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
Stay up to date with industry trends, regulations, and advancements in safety practices.
Coordinate and manage safety-related projects, including the implementation of new safety equipment and best practices.
Conduct safety meetings and training sessions to promote a culture of safety and awareness.
Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety-related activities and incidents.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve safety performance and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management within the aggregate, mining or heavy industrial manufacturing industry.
In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and standards, including confined spaces, working from heights, energy isolation, heavy equipment, lockout tagout, and incident management.
Proven experience in developing and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
Strong understanding of driver safety practices and relevant regulations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CRSP) is a plus.
